    Description

Living Together Under the Law highlights the basic civic concepts and understanding that provide the foundation for the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights. It also focuses on the roles, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship that are taught as part of the elementary Social Studies program in New York State.

The activities and materials included in this publication are designed to teach these basic concepts in developmentally appropriate ways to all students in grades pre-K to six. These activities are linked to the New York State Social Studies and English Language Arts learning standards, specifically the performance indicators that define each standard.

Living Together Under the Law publication also includes skills-based assignments that test skills evaluated on State assessments.  It involves interactive teaching methods, encourages multiple points of view, and provides opportunities for student engagement and leadership.

A sound introduction to democratic principles... worthwhile for early and middle grade students.
