STORY -- Project History, CA

STORY -- Project History, CA

Project History allows history to come alive for students. A teacher in Los Angeles used the Declaration of Independence activity with his 8th grade class to show how it is a living and viable document today.

Students created Public Service Announcements that reflected the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and it's importance today. Student examples included their reaction to current governmental military policies, as well as the media's portrayal of young people.

Teachers report that their students finally begin to appreciate the relevance of History to their lives after completing the six lessons of Project History.

The "Hands on History" project included in Project History is an excellent way for students to showcase their talents and abilities in an authentic way.

Many students who have done a "Hands on History" assignment have then gone on to complete a much more involved History Day project, which involves in-depth research, writing, and presentation skills.
