Content standards adopted for listed subjects which include government and citizenship. (04 AAC 04.140) Government and Citizenship Content Standards (not grade-level standards) include language about participatory skills such as discussing public issues, building consensus, becoming involved in political parties and campaigns, voting, recognizing the value of community service. Alaska’s Performance Standards/Grade Level Expectations for Alaska History are divided into four central themes, one of which includes “citizenship, governance and power.” Alaska History Standards are aligned with existing Alaska Content Standards for social studies. "A curriculum framework is a summary of the educational issues facing curriculum development committees; a discussion of how state goals and standards relate to those issues; a structure to help district curriculum development committees address the Alaska student standards; a guide for planning professional development; a guide to recommended instructional and assessment strategies; a description of effective instruction and assessment strategies with an analysis of how they address the standards; collection of reference materials to assist curriculum development committees and other educators; and a tool to communicate the goals of the standards to the community."
