The mission statement for the Kansas Curricular Standards for civics/government, economics, geography refers to the goal of enabling students "to participate intelligently, justly and responsibly in civic life, and in deliberation about local, national, and international issues." Benchmarks include "civic values" and "rights, privileges [and] responsibilities." Content includes roles of citizens, problem solving, decision making, reasoned persuasion, conflict resolution, etc. Benchmarks are listed for the end of grades 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12.
