Social Studies standards include "Power, Authority, and Governance: Government/Political Science" strand, which includes grade-specific standards for grades 1-8 and grade-span standards for 9-10 and 11-12. Includes standard 2.6.2, "show how a citizen can influence policies and decisions by working with others;" standard 5.5.1, "explain the ways people can work together to promote the principles and ideals of American democracy;" standard 12.7.9, "identify examples of individual and public goals and explain how participation in civic and political life can help attain them."

The state has adopted textbooks and documents showing correlations between standards and texts, but only through grade 8.
